The Doo Wop Sock Hop!

Our school has an annual Sock Hop each February and it's a great time for the kids. They have food, dancing, auctions, candy counters, pictures...you name it, fun for all! The teachers all volunteer an hour of their time to help run the event. The PTA puts the whole thing together and they do an incredible job! The kids dress up in fifties gear and run around like crazy people the whole time. Well, this year we thought it would be fun to take Addie and Grandma Cece offered to make her her very own poodle skirt. It came in the mail today, just in time for the festivities this evening! Thank you Grandma for the adorable skirt! You did an amazing job! It's black with a tiny poodle on it! (I think you can see it better if you click on the pictures) We just love it! I can remember being pregnant with my little fifties girl last year at the sock hop time.

I am hoping that my friend Amy got some cute pictures of Ben and Addie together...? In mine they are both looking away. Addie got to see two of her little buddies tonight, Ben and Rylee. She enjoyed seeing you both! She also had fun seeing all of Mommy's teacher friends and kids from her classes.

Happy Weekend!!

Thank You Bubbie!

Dear Bubbie,

Thank you so much for coming to stay the day with me today! I had so much fun playing with you! It means so much to my mommy and daddy that you rearranged your WHOLE day so that you could come stay with my while Evie is sick. You make me so happy! It was so nice that you spent the night and I got to wake up to you being here. Wow!! Thank you soooo much! I hope we can play together again soon.

Love,
Addie B.

A Girl After MY Own Heart....

So, we have a little daily routine around here. After I put Addie down, I like to put away her things on her shelf in the living room. It's kind of silly...kind of like making my bed...it just makes me feel sort of like, "together" to have my bed made and her toys put away. Even though I know the bed will be unmade again soon and all of this will be on the floor again soon.

So, you'll notice that I have some of her books inter-mixed with her toys that I periodically change out so that she is always seeing new books and so that I am reading her different titles as well. I believe in the power of reading 3 books a day aloud to her, based on some powerful research presented by Mem Fox in her book Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever. (I made that title a link in case you are interested in the book....) I am really cheesy and like to put out books for her to "browse" about the current season, current holidays, and such. Right now we have snow books, snowman books, winter books, and Valentine's Day books out.

So here's an "After Addie is asleep shot"
So, fast forward to the next day. I pick up my peanut and when we get home it is play time! Guess where Addie goes first?
Straight to her books! And she pulls
every...
single...
one ...
off ...
the ...
shelf...
and spreads them all out around her to pick which one she will read. Well, maybe not read,
maybe...
which...
one...
she...
will ...
chew ...
on.....

and then listen to Mommy read!

But still, her mama couldn't be more proud of this baby girl. As Dr. Seuss once said, "“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” My hope is that books are a B-I-G part of this l-i-t-t-l-e girl's life...and I would say that we are off to a really good start! :-)

Flowers!!

They still came! If you read my Valentine's Day post, you saw that the flowers Brandon had sent were cancelled. The fed ex man kept them in the refrigerated box on his truck all weekend and they were delivered this morning! They are beautiful and smell wonderful! Thanks Brandon! :-)

Addie's First Valentine's Day!

"Above all else, guard your HEART, for it is the wellspring of life..." Proverbs 4:23

We have had a wonderful first Valentine's Day weekend with Addie! We started out the weekend with a family day at home on Friday because of record breaking snow fall. When we woke up on Thursday morning, this is what we saw...

The snow continued to fall all day Thursday. We had a field trip at school planned for that day and we still had to go! It was crazy! We took the picture above at 9 pm on Thursday night looking out our front door. Unbelievable! :-) It was so much fun to have an extra day at home on Friday all together.
So, a little background info......Brandon and I have never celebrated Valentine's Day as a couple. From the very beginning (almost 13 years ago!) we felt like we should treat every day like V's day and do sweet things for eachother. I must say he does an amazing job of making me feel loved all year long. So get this. For the first time ever for V's day, he decided over a week ago to have flowers delivered to me at work Friday. AND, our life group leaders offered to watch Addie so that we could go on a special date. B made reservations at Chamberlain's Fish Market! Well, as you know, we had no school Friday, so no flowers...and poor Anne got sick, so she couldn't watch Addie. Dang! Best laid plans....
So, we decided we needed to get out of the house. We took Addie and all three of us went to Macaroni Grill. We had a wonderful dinner and of course we enjoyed having our little peanut with us to celebrate! We have had such a year full of LOVE having her, that it was special to eat together. She enjoyed cheerios while we enjoyed pasta! Then, in usual Harmon-fashion, we stopped through McDonald's for a chocolate dipped ice cream cone on the way home. Oh, and wait! B did the grocery shopping yesterday and brought home tulips for me...so I DID still get flowers for V's day! Thanks Brandon for making it special for both Addie and me. WE love you!
Now for a few Valentine's Day pictures of our little love.....

Thank you to ALL of our sweet friends and family who sent Addie cards and goodies for Valentine's Day! She loves them all and she loves YOU! We are enjoying reading the books, wearing the pj's, sporting the outfits, wearing the bows, and growing frogs into princes....and for a long time, that's all the "boy" she'll need! Happy Valentine's Day!
ps--keep reading for another new post I made today! :-)

What's Up with Addie B?

Tag along and we'll tell you about what all we've been up to....
Pulling up on everything in sight!

Doing better with finger foods! New favorites: Chicken, Turkey, Green Beans, & Cheddar Cheese!
Doin' chores....

Hangin' with friends...our friends Sarah, Audrey, Olivia, Auntie M, and Mr. Micah came for a visit a few weeks ago. So much fun!!!! Addie loved watching those big girls play!

Prunes make me oh, so happy.....even though Mommy thinks they look disgusting!
Addie and I went to visit Daddy at work on Martin L. King, Jr. Day. Daddy was so proud of Addie as he took her around his office and showed her off to all of his coworkers. One lady even gave Addie a souvenir, a little Raytheon bear. With all the security in his office, they wouldn't let me take any pictures inside, but I got a shot outside!
A couple of weeks ago, Brandon came to read to my class and brought Addie with him. I gave the kids a clue each day as to who was coming on Friday to read to them. The clue that stumped them the most was this: "My Child is Youngest of All!" Hmmm...they were so excited when they walked in the door.
Addie sat on my desk and just watched the big kids in awe of them....and I must say they were in awe of her as well. I just love having her at school with me. I still can't figure out why they won't let me take her with me every day?
We are in a new life group led by Mark and Anne Lunsford. They are amazing!! We love them so much. They have 3 daughters in middle school and live only about 5 minutes from us. They felt a calling to lead a group of young married couples just starting out their families and be a source of encouragement to them. Not everyone in the group has kids, but some will soon! It's been a great ride so far just learning from their wisdom and life experience. They hosted us for a super bowl party...and Addie loves Ms. Anne. (Just like her mama!)
I thought this face was so funny! My sweet friend Kristen sent Addie this bow (if you look closely or click on the picture, you can see it has conversation hearts on it!! Love it!) She's also wearing the outfit from Nana and Aunt Lindsey. This little girl is so loved!!!

This one needs no caption......
Thanks for tagging along! Love to all!

Popee's Desk at Work

So, my dad is completely smitten with Addie (as are ALL of her wonderful grandparents!). It's really fun for me to see my dad in action as her grandpa. Every time I send him a picture of her, he forwards it on to his whole office and then I get to see all of their cute replies. He sent me this picture the other day and said, "Check out my new screen saver." I just loved it! I also love the sticker on his bulletin board that says, "No whining." Now, that's the dad I remember growing up. Ha ha! Just kidding Popee! Love you!

Happy 10 Month Birthday Addie!

The Lord who created you says, "I have called you by name. You are mine; when you go through troubles and deep water I will be with you." Isaiah 13:1-2
Ok, my pity party is over! It's amazing how a good night's sleep can change my world. (Along with lots of encouragement from lots of sweet friends! Thank you! And thanks to Kristen for the wonderfully uplifting verse up at the top of this entry!) I am feeling happier today. I think it's high time for an update on our family. So much has happened since I really blogged last time! Happy 10 Months Baby! Here are some things that have been going on..... 1. Addie had her first ear infection a few weeks ago! And not just one, but two at the same time. She woke up in the middle of the night on Tuesday night, January 19th and it was obvious to me that something was really wrong. I lined up a sub for the next day, slept on the floor in her room, and prayed that it was nothing too serious. I knew the doctors would say it was another cold at first glance, but I just knew in my heart it was something more. Sure enough, there was a double ear infection and they treated it with antibiotics. So for 10 days she took the pink chalky liquid and seemed to be feeling much better! In the last two days, her nose has started to run again pretty constant. I am not sure if this round is related to the sickness or because of teeth coming in.

2. Speaking of teeth, Addie has finally gotten some on top! She has gotten her left vampire tooth (maybe b/c Mommy can't stop reading about Edward and Bella???) and her left front tooth. She also has four on the bottom. I have been working with her on finger foods and it's going better each day. Right now she likes bananas, avocados, and cheerios best. I know we aren't supposed to compare babies, but I was really worrying about her delay with finger foods after reading other blogs out there. I have learned from further research that some babies just aren't in a hurry and that's ok. She'll get there on her own time!

3. She is pulling up on EVERYTHING! Sometimes she will let go and stand there for about 2 seconds. She is busy, busy, busy...crawling everywhere. You literally can't turn your back for two seconds. I love to watch her explore. Sometimes I am just blown away by the things she does, I can't help but tear up. She stands, I cry...she laughs, I melt.
4. We had her nine month appt. and it went great! (This was almost a month ago!) She weighed 19.5 pounds. She is still in the 50-75th percentile on everything. I love her little rolls on her legs. Developmentally, she was right on target. Praise God! It was such a fun appointment! Dr. G said by her 12 mo. appt she should be on all table foods...hmmmm...someone tell me this is flexible!
5. She has two words: dadadadadada and mamamamama and when you ask her say one, she says the opposite. I think she is going to have a really funny personality. She seems to have a lot of spunk about her. She loves to bop her head from side to side and dances a little to music.

6. Addie is officially in 9 month clothes! It took her till 10 months of age, but she's there and it still blows my mind to look at how long the pants are and realize that she actually fits in them! I love dressing her and my new favorite thing is putting her hair in pigtails. She is so much fun.7. She is very close to weaning herself off of mommy's milk. I am still hanging on to those two nursing periods a day with all of my might but I have reason to believe I might not be producing what she needs. We have been supplementing with formula, which she loves and will even take from a sippy cup. It makes me so sad to think that nursing her has almost come to an end. We had such a tough start, and we have bee in the "bliss" period for a while now. I really wanted to go to a year, but I think my body might be saying "time's up." I know she will do great on formula, it's not that I am worried about that part....just selfishly I will miss this time b/c it's another sign that she's growing up. I will not, however, miss the pumping! Yay for that part!
8. She loves books. She doesn't always sit still long enough for me to read her a whole book, but she sure loves to eat the books and play with them. I try to make sure they are all around her all of the time b/c I want them to be a BIG part of her life.

I think that's about it! We are planning her first birthday party! It's going to be on April 3rd, which is her actual birthday and I can't wait to celebrate her life! We are going to have a birthday parade (Thanks Kelly W. for the awesome idea.) We will start at our house and parade to the park for cake, ice cream, and play time with friends. 2 Months! How is THAT possible?

Lovin' every minute with this sweet baby girl.........

Tired and Overwhelmed

I know I need to blog but I am tired. I am overwhelmed and tired. Days like today make me feel like I have been hit by a truck, then it backs up and hits me again. I am a bit down in the dumps. I promise to blog again soon. I got on here to blog and then I had an email from a parent questioning something I did today with their child. ughh.... Even more down now...definitely not in the mood to blog. Even though there are no new pictures, I promise you...Addie is so cute and so sweet and she is by far......the best part of my days.
