Goin’ to the Chapel….

I am so totally excited and happy to make this post!!!

Carol and Micah are ENGAGED!  Friday morning I was sitting with Addie giving her some milk at around 7:30 am when I got a text asking if I could meet Carol in Fort Worth that afternoon.  Remember, she lives in HOUSTON!  My reply: “YES OMG Y?” She wouldn’t tell me anything, just to come meet her!!

I called my friend Amanda and asked if she could watch Addie for me for a few hours and she was more than happy to keep her!  BTW thank you SO much Amanda (Addie had such a blast playing the afternoon away with Rylee!)   So, I got ready, dropped her off and headed to FW.  When I arrived Carol told me to meet her at Haltom’s Jewelers.  This is where Carol worked through college.  It’s also my personal favorite jeweler because Brandon got my ring there!  :-)  When I came around the corner I saw her glowing and smiling from ear to ear with a beautiful diamond ring on her left hand!!! I hugged her, hugged Micah, and cried!  I am so very very excited for them!!!!  Micah actually proposed that morning with a bubble gum wrapper ring (that’s a really cute inside story between the two of them) and then he drove her to FW to pick out her ring because he told her, “You are going to wear this forever!”   I had to keep this news TOP secret all weekend because they were telling Carol’s entire family in person on Monday.  I just love Micah so much.  I think he is perfect for Carol!  They are such a cute, happy couple and I could not possibly be more excited!  They are getting married in October of this year!  I can hardly wait!  Yay!!! Congrats to the two LOVEBIRDS!!!!

I took this picture of them when we had lunch Friday.  She is wearing her gum wrapper ring in this pic!  SO CUTE!!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Grady Mac!

Addie’s sweet friend Grady had his second birthday party this afternoon at a splash park! The first picture shows his whole family, Aubrey, Jen, Grady and Jett.  This was Addie’s first time at a splash park and she had a great time! She got to see lots of her friends from church and had a blast playing and splashing! It took her a few minutes to warm up to it, but once she did, she just giggled and giggled!

Happy Birthday Sweet Grady!  We love you!

From us and your girl, “Abbie D”
(this is what Grady calls her…and I just LOVE it!)

Playtime with Rylee!

Addie and I had a play-date with Amanda and Rylee on Wednesday!  We went swimming and had so much fun!  Addie has missed her time with Rylee!  If you click HERE you can see pictures from one of their play-dates last summer!  My, how things change in one year!!

After we swam, we put clean diapers on the girls and they had fun running around “free as a bird” and playing in nothing but their diapers!

Love these two little girls!!

Sweet Baby Landry

Today Addie and I went to see Auntie Hillie and Baby Landry! It was so much fun! He is such a sweet little man with the most adorable dark hair and eyes. He melts my heart! It was Addie’s first time to meet Landry, so we had to take pictures of them together. She did really good sitting still (I was worried!)…but I think she looks like such a big girl next to him! MY BABY isn’t such a baby anymore is she??? :-)

Happy Father’s Day!

Brandon, you are an amazing Daddy!  It’s been so fun to see you in action over the last 14 months!  Addie is one lucky girl!

To my dad, I love you, I love spending time with you,  and you always know how to make me laugh!

To my stepdad, thank you for caring so much about us and taking such good care of my mama!

To all of our Grandpas, we love you and Happy Father’s Day!

And to Brandon’s Dad “Blue” in Heaven, we miss you every day….and we know you are our special angel, watching over us.

Houston Trip!

We had the BEST time in Houston last week!  We made so many wonderful memories!  I had a blast taking Addie to see lots of people we love so much.  We missed you, Daddy, but it was a great girls’ trip!  Here is a glimpse at our week in pictures:

Monday we drove down and arrived mid-afternoon.  After a quick pit-stop at Granny and Papa’s, we went to my Aunt Kristie’s house.  Cousin Clayton and Cousin Nick were waiting for us and helped me unload the car.  Addie would have no part of a nap, so we went swimming!  Aunt Kristie bought this super cool float and Addie had a blast splashing around.  Clayton was great at keeping her entertained.

This is Aunt Kristie, Clayton, and Addie…

We stayed the night Monday at Aunt Kristie’s and on Tuesday we went to Granny and Papa’s house.  Addie loved spending time with them both and could not get enough of Uncle Pete! DSC01558DSC01565DSC01568

On Tuesday afternoon, Uncle Pete, Addie, and Papa went for a cruise around the neighborhood….

Granny thought Addie’s tea set was pretty fun!

On Tuesday night we were so excited to see Aunt Becky!  She came over to have dinner with us!  Aunt Becky is pregnant with a baby girl named Sadie Su, who will arrive in August!  We cannot wait to meet her!  Isn’t Becky so pretty?  We think she just glows!!  It was really fun to feel baby Sadie kick in her belly.   Really made Mama want to be pregnant again!!DSC01581

Granny and Papa have a storm door and it was Addie’s very favorite place at their house.  Tuesday night I took our her pig tails, stripped her down, and was running her bath water.  Addie decided to run to her favorite spot and play.  I just thought it was too cute.  I played in this same exact spot when I was a toddler!

On Wednesday, we got to see my bestie Misty from HS! She has three precious kiddos and we went to Chick Fil A for lunch.  Her youngest, Paisley is only a couple of months younger than Addie and they had the best time “chatting!”

Wednesday afternoon we went to Auntie M’s to play and spend the night!  We had so much fun!  We went out for Mexican food and then we took Addie for her first snow cone.  Auntie M had a blast feeding Addie her coconut snow cone and although Addie loved the flavor, she would make the cutest surprised face every time she felt the cold ice on her tongue!! So cute!! Oh, and another FIRST! Addie got “hit on” LOL at the snow cone park.  There were these two cute little boys completely fascinated with her.  They kept saying, “Hey Baby…”  Love it!

Then Thursday we dropped Addie off for her afternoon nap at Granny’s and Carol and I started to transform into party mode!  It was FINALLY time to start getting ready for Grand Finale for her Woman of the year campaign!  The anticipation was killing me!!! We went to Neiman Marcus and had our make up done by Carol’s awesome make up lady, Wendy!  So fancy!  Carol even treated me to fake eyelashes.  The second picture is taken from my profile so you can see how long they were!  I felt so fabulous!  Carol’s make up was amazing too!  More pictures of that below…

We went home and did Carol’s hair and got ourselves all ready…Isn’t she so pretty!?

Then it was pre-party time!  We set out some appetizers, popped open some wine and enjoyed the anticipation with family and friends as we waited to go to the party! DSC01595

Then it was time!  We had a blast mingling, looking at silent auction items, and celebrating the huge WIN for LLS!  Do you know that in just 10 weeks, the Man/Woman of the Year Campaign raised over $202,000 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society?  I am just amazed at these wonderful people for all they did for this great cause!!!

Look below at that cute couple!  Micah is such a GEM!

There was an awful lot of silliness going on as we awaited the big announcement….LOL!!!

Then the announcement was made!!!  Carol Colin, Woman of the YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!! We were all so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this….From Carol’s blog: “It was such an honor to be asked to raise money for the society that supports families that have battled, are battling or will battle leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or other blood cancers. I appreciate the more that 350 Superheroes that joined in the campaign and supported LLS! It’s because of your generous donations that Superheroes for a Cure raised over $37,000!”  Well, we’re so proud of you, Carol!  You are amazing, my sweet friend!!!

Thank you to all of the wonderful family and friends who made our Houston trip so much fun!  We were so blessed to be able to spend a week with all of you.

And Carol, thank you for having me share in your special evening.  We are so proud of you!

The word of the week is “baby” in our house.  Addie has a little blue bear that my mom gave her when we were visiting Oregon at Spring Break.  It was something she came across that she thought she’d put in Addie’s crib to sleep with while we were there.  Addison absolutely LOVES this bear!  She carries it around with her, sleeps with it, holds it close to her chest (like I hold her), and pats it gently, saying “baby”… when I go in to get her from naps or sleep time, she greets me with, “baby?” and shows me her baby. It’s like she’s telling me I should tell the bear good morning too…so you better believe I do! :-)

Today I was looking through some pictures on my camera and realized all of these pictures from this week have her baby in them.  So sweet!

My mom tells me I loved my babies when I was little.  Love that she loves her babies too! :-)

What a week I have had! There is so much to blog about, it over whelms me to think of where to start. So much to reflect upon! I once received an email about “What teachers make.” What do teachers make?

We make kids wonder.
We make them question.
We make them apologize and mean it.
We make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.
We teach them to write and then we make them write.
We make them read, read, read.
We make them show all their work in math. They use their God-given brain, not the man-made calculator.
We make our students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity.
We make our classroom a place where students feel safe.
We make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work
hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.

I have truly enjoyed my journey over the last 10 years in the classroom. I have so many wonderful memories…challenging at times, yet most always rewarding. I have had great experiences at great schools with great people. If you had asked me a few years ago if I’d ever choose to be a stay at home mom, I would have said, “NO WAY!” I just loved teaching that much. This little picture is my class this year at field day. Field day was tough this year because of a situation that occurred. But right after that situation was over, we took this picture. I am reminded looking at these little faces that at the end of the day, they are all that matter….not the endless paperwork, grading, parents, or the rest…it’s them. It’s all for them. I pray that after their time in my classroom, they truly know that if they use the gifts they are given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.

Friday I said good bye to third grade for the time-being. It was sad, but happy at the same time because of what’s to come.

Moving on to Saturday….

Saturday we moved my teaching belongings home to store in my attic. Right before we put it all away, I took this picture. This is about 1/3 of the amount I moved into my current school. I have tried really hard to slim down my belongings to save my poor husband’s back. I am pretty proud of myself! So good bye to my beloved teaching materials that I have spent countless dollars on (for now….)

Then on Saturday afternoon came a really difficult part. Telling the people I love working with goodbye!

I once heard that if you have two out of three things you will be happy in your job. The three things are:

1. You like the job you do

2. You like your boss

3. You like the people you work directly with

#3 is HUGE for me! It can make or break your entire work experience! I have been BLESSED BEYOND BELIEF with the best team the last two years!!!! Chani, Lynsey and Tonya have been a dream to work with! I have also been blessed with great friends in other grade levels and departments, to name a few...Amy, Ashley, Sharon, Amanda, Tari, Brooke, Allison, Lauren, Julie, Katie, Ceseley, and Deena. There are many more wonderful people...this list could go on and on.

I will miss my team so much!! We have laughed together, cried together, chatted together, celebrated together, and comforted each other.I love them all and have enjoyed being on such an AWESOME team!

Leaving these three ladies was really hard! I love them all so much! When it was time to leave, they all reminded me…through my tears, of all the things I wouldn’t miss in teaching, (like the situation at field day! ha!) and then Addie walked through the door with her daddy to come pick me up and she made us all giggle. She’s such a silly girl! She can always make me smile when I am down.

Then Monday was just plain SAD!!!

We had to tell THE BEST BABYSITTER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD good bye! Ms. Courtney, we love, love, love you.

We gave Courtney a card and wrote inside:

Thank you…

For watching over Addie while we couldn’t be there
For picking her up & holding her close when she would fall down.
For saving her poop (seriously!! she did this for a dr. appt. for me) and changing a million diapers
For instilling in Addie the loving, Godly character traits that are so important to us.
Thank you for praising her accomplishments and for disciplining her when she needed it.
For making her lunch and preparing her milk
Thank you…
For watching her so that we could go to the jobs we love.
For keeping her so happy she didn’t want to leave
For being God’s gift to our family this year.

THANK YOU For loving our girl as if she were your own.

Because of you, we have been able to go off to work and feel at peace and secure knowing that you were caring for my precious baby.

Thank you for being there for us,
Brandon and Michelle and Addiecakes

We made her this special frame as a keepsake..

And all of those goodbyes made for one worn-out Mommy. I hate goodbyes! I really do! I know the future has so many happy times to look forward to, but my past is what has made me the person I am. And I promise to remember that my past is shaped by all of the wonderful people who have supported and blessed me in this journey. Reflecting on today as we wrapped up our first official day of being home together, I could not feel happier. I bathed Addie, and was having cuddle time with her. Brandon and I take turns putting her to bed. We like to talk to her at bed time and tell her about all of the people who love her, we pray with her, we tell her about what she did that day and what she’ll do tomorrow. Tonight was my turn and I was telling her about how it was the best day ever…talking about all the fun things we did today. Brandon came in, kneeled down and said,

“Addie, did you know your mommy left her job to stay home with you so you could have all of your days be just like today? She left a job she loved very much….you should know that.”

Then she grinned at him and gave me a big kiss on the lips. Some day I’ll tell her the story, but for now….she’s in peaceful dream land gearing up for day 2 with Mommy tomorrow.

Love to all! ~Michelle
