An Award!!!

I was given this sweet award from Alyson at The Steiner Life. Please pray for my sweet friend Alyson! She is trying with all of her might to have a baby and I just know that 2010 is the year for her and her husband Justin! Love you Alyson!!!

Ok, I am supposed to tell 7 things about myself (that you might not already know!) and then share the award with 7 other bloggers! Just like Alyson, I read so many amazing blogs! I seriously don't know how I will choose just 7! So, here are 7 random things about me that you may not know:

1. I love to cook! I especially love to make healthy meals. I enjoy the challenge of creating a meal and then figuring out how many weight watcher's points the meal totals. I have done weight watchers off and on for years and I am almost like a walking WW points encyclopedia. I hardly ever have to look up points for things. It's a healthy way of eating and still enjoying the things that make your tummy happy!

2. I love french fries. ANY KIND from ANY PLACE. They are definitely my favorite food and always have been. When I was a little girl my Granny would take me to McDonald's for breakfast and she would let me get two hashbrowns for breakfast....such a happy memory! (I know all of the points on french fries for any fast food restaurant in town...and have been known to skip another meal entirely to work fries into my points.)

3. I love to read! I LOVE love stories, mysteries, and now I have recently found I love to read about Edward, Bella, and Jacob! Thanks to Allison and Sharon, I am hooked on the Twilight Saga. I am 30 pages from the end of Eclipse right now. What a story!

4. Wrapping presents is sort of a hobby for me. I have a closet upstairs with tons of wrapping paper, ribbons, tags, tissue paper. I don't like using gift sacks b/c I enjoy wrapping a box. I like the feeling of creasing the paper, tucking it under, and making a pretty bow to top it with. Thanks to Carol and Nat I learned how to make pretty bows a few years ago. I also enjoy finding the perfect item to tie on to the gift!

5. I love to bargain shop. Finding a good deal excites me! However, I have one indulgence and that is jeans. (Another shout out to Carol....who got me hooked.) IMO there is nothing better than a pair of jeans that make you feel sassy and confident. This is one area that I have a weakness for sure! My personal favorite brand is 7's for all Mankind. I even splurged on a pair of maternity 7's when I was pregnant and wore them from 12 weeks till the day before I had Addie. :-)

6. My purse is a D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. It's the one place I let it all go. I am super type A and I have a place for everything and everything in it's place. I love structure, I am giddy about organization, I enjoy cleaning out closets, I LOVE the container store, etc. However, my purse is the one place I let it all go. It's a disaster! You never know what you might find in there! I often keep it zipped up b/c I am afraid that someone might see in there! :-)

number 7...........

7. I have decided to stay home with Addie next year! Yay! I am so happy and so excited about what lies ahead. This was the hardest decision I have ever made b/c I love my team and my school so much!!! I just feel in my heart that for the next few years I don't want to miss a thing with her. Now....about this many of you know, I prayed so much about whether or not to go back to teaching. I felt such a peace about going back this year and it was for such a good reason. I truly think God knows me and knew I needed to see both sides so that I would be able to say which one I prefer. I love teaching. I love third graders! But I just feel in my heart that this is what's best for our family. I will be going back to teaching though some day for sure! :-) I can't wait till June when I get to spend all of my days with my little side kick.

And now for the 7 (well...9) bloggers I choose to receive the beautiful blogger award:

Chani at Eric and Chani
Amanda at The Truncali Family
Amy at Bill Amy Ben
Jen at The McGowan Family
Alison at The Soladay Family
Jolene at Tag Along with the Ericksons
Sharon at the The Williams
Lindsay at Logan Laughs
Kelly at Party of Three

I had the hardest time choosing 9! I wanted to leave some of the blogs we all read out there for you guys to choose! Jen and Amanda, I know both of your lives are crazy right now, so no worries if you don't have time for this. Thank you to all of my blog friends for the inspiration that you are in my life! I love you all and I enjoy reading about your lives. Thanks again Alyson for picking me to receive this award! I had fun coming up with my 7 things!

Jumping for Joy!

Imagine what Brandon and I would look like if we were jumping for joy.........
Below is an update from my mom about something really exciting going on for them right now! We are jumping for joy and praising God that they have been given this opportunity!
From Mom:

About 2 1/2 months ago, Saint Child, a maternity home in Hillsboro really close to our church, sent me a job posting to my work about an opening they have for house parents. I read it and thought do I know anybody I can refer to this position. Well God kept taking me back to this posting over and over again until I decided I needed to pray about this for us. So for a couple of weeks I prayed and it became even more real to me. I sought advice and counsel from two Christians, Michelle and Suzette, and they both felt it was a perfect position for Skip and I. So they started praying with me about it, because none of us thought Skip would go for it. About 2 weeks later I started talking to Skip about it and he was really open to the idea. He did not think it could all work out, but he thought we should apply for it.

So we filled out some really long applications answering tons of questions about our faith and beliefs and dropped off our applications on the very last day for submitting apps, November 30th. All this time thinking, "OK, now we will see what God wants to do". Well within the week we received a phone call stating they wanted to set up an initial interview for December 31st at 2pm. This would be for a tour of the 1908 home (which I had already done before with a student of mine) and a time for us to get our questions answered and the first interview.
The home is amazing, you can check it out at They changed their name because so many people associate House of Ruth with the national domestic violence shelters of the same name.
We would live in a 4 room section of the house on the first floor known as the house parents quarters. We would be on duty M-F 24 hours a day. There is a resident assistant that lives there, too and she works full time outside of the house during the week and takes care of the girls on the weekends. The girls are from ages 14-24, pregnant, and can stay from 8-14 months at the house.

So we interviewed, fell in love with the 8500 square foot house and apparently they liked us a little bit, too. They told us that within the next two weeks we would get a letter letting us know if we were in the top 3 couples out of 8 couples applying for the position and then we would be set up for an interview with the executive board. This was on New Year's Eve and on the following Monday, the next business day, we received an email wanting to know if we could meet with the executive board on January 12th at 6:30 pm.

We met with the board, all 6 of them and went through a pretty tough interview. Two days later, yesterday, they called and offered us the job. We start on 2/1/10. That is it! We are selling our house. We are moving into a home for young, single moms who are expecting to be their house parents. I am quitting my job and Skip is keeping his. And Penny Lane is going to be the House Puppy!
We are thrilled!
And we are thrilled too, Mom and Skip! We just know that God has BIG plans for you guys in this role and we can't wait to share in this journey with you!

Happy 9 Month Birthday Addie!

Dear Sweet Addie,
Wow! Today you turned 9 months old! How is it possible that you will be 1 year old in just three months? You are SUCH a joy and have added SO MUCH to our lives. We can't even remember what it was like before you came along. You are growing so fast, it's hard to believe! In the last two weeks, you have started crawling...and wow you are fast! You are also pulling up on things, and you want to be standing as much as possible. Usually when go into your room to get you up from a nap, you are standing up, grinning at us from ear to ear. I think you saved up these major milestones for the time Mommy and Daddy were home with you over the break. Thank you!!! Oh, sweet girl....You are so happy! You smile at us all the time. Today I took you with me to the grocery store and you made friends on every aisle. I told you about everything we got....apples, bananas, and milk. We even practiced the moooo sound while we were talking about where milk comes from. You are like a seem to soak up everything we say and do. Our favorite thing to do is to watch you explore. Everything is new and exciting to you. You are eating so good, playing so hard, and sleeping so peacefully. We cannot even begin to describe how much fun it has been to be off with you for 16 days for our Christmas break. Even though we are sad to return to work tomorrow, we are thankful for the time we have had and will always treasure the memories of your first Christmas, your first New Year's, and so much more. We love you, sweet girl!
Love, Mommy & Daddy
ps--I can't even reread this without crying!

Just 9 short months ago....

9 Months Old!
Wearing the outfit Chani gave her when I found out it was a girl...I love the butt! (And of course, she's trying to stand!)
My favorite time of the day....

Very busy playing!
